Google locked down Android starting with Marshmallow where unless you unlock the bootloader, you cannot root. I don't think you can unlock bootloader for Canadian LG's.

You do have to downgrade to LP and root. Going from memory (I did this recently) you have to flash a bumped boot.img, install supersu and then flash MM.
